Maptek Donates $12,000 for Wishes and Shelter
In December 2007, employees of the Denver office donated $7,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado. Employees participated in ‘Growvember’, which encourages male participants to grow beards and raise money . All of the 42 staff (bearded or not) joined in the effort, raising $7,000 for this worthy cause, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy.
Chief Executive Officer, Barry Henderson and Mining Engineer, Paul Chilson raised the most money with a combined total of $2,600. Other teams were close behind. The wish was granted to a 15-year-old boy who wants to go to Hawaii; he’ll be traveling with his family in February 2008.
In the spirit of giving, Maptek also donated $5,000 to the Denver Rescue Mission. This organisation was the non-profit foundation chosen by the winner of the Maptek ‘Growvember’ contest, Cesar Carrasco. The foundation offers shelter, food, clothing and education to individuals in need.
Maptek employees also donated 56 coats to Coats for Colorado; these coats will be distributed to people in need throughout the state.
Angel for a Day
Maptek's Adelaide office recently made a donation to the Hutt Street Centre's 'Angel for a Day Appeal'. The donation covers meals for more than 200 people who are homeless and vulnerable. A successful chocolate fundraising drive enabled Maptek to make our second donation to the program in 2007. In recognition of our efforts, staff are invited to volunteer at the centre preparing and serving meals on our nominated dates - February 15 and March 6 2008.
